Last year, Rhino/Warner reissued all five Factory-era New Order albums. The sources for the bonus material were probably not the masters, a bunch of stuff was mislabeled, and the production errors that had existed since the 1980s went predominantly uncorrected; Click here for a particularly lengthy list of errors if you’re into that kind of thing. At the same source you’ll discover that while Rhino reissued all five discs in the last month, they apparently have new problems, too.
Conveniently, the internet is working to address this. Two fellows named £50 Note and Bruce are doing full restorations of the band’s entire Factory-era singles run to be followed by similar restorations for Joy Division singles. Everything released so far sounds great and the attached Peter Saville art is all pretty stunning. As it turns out, New Order was a pretty excellent singles band; I’ve also been stuck playing “True Faith” obsessively all week. Good work, internet.
